Run, Mommy, Run!

January 4, 2017

New Years is an exciting time and gives me a feeling of starting over with a clean slate, increased focus on goals I want to accomplish in life, and a view of the possibilities of what the year could be. 2016 was a great year filled with family, friends, meeting new people, and several personal and professional accomplishments. On January 1st,  I sat at my computer and made a new document titled 2017 GOALS- in a big font, underlined, and in bold.  I began typing the goals I wanted for this new year quickly, and as my fingers tapped away on the keys, I felt that instead of labeling the list 2017 GOALS a much better fit would be 2017 WILL DO'S. There is one goal in particular that has been a goal on that list for several years. This is the last year I will ever see it written out under a goal list, because I finally will have it completed! There are reasons I am sure that this goal was not completed years ago, believing that we are directed to do something at specific times for specific reasons.  I am very happy to say though that this is the year my book -Last Words, will be sent to the publisher and published!

Happy Birthday Sage!

September 19, 2016

Dear Sage-

Your birthday was on Sunday, so I celebrated on Saturday with dinner from the Cheesecake Factory.  I also had a slice of Oreo Cheesecake in your honor-it was delicious! Sunday I took a drive into the mountains so I could experience the beauty of autumn and see God's hands through the myriad of colors displayed in the trees and bushes.  I know I shouldn't have skipped church, but I know He will understand.  I needed the quiet and solace of the mountains to give me the adequate time to think about you on your very special day.

Spring of Hope

March 16, 2016

Hope.  Have you ever thought what "Hope" looks like?  For me, hope looks like what happens in Spring.  I am always amazed at the emergence of life when Spring returns every year.  The greening of the grass, the tiny budding of the trees and bushes, the vibrant colors of crocus, daffodils, and tulips all  fill my soul with happiness and anticipation of the coming seasons. I walked around my house inspecting the plants in my gardens just the other day.  There is something so exciting about seeing the tiny leafs and sprouts coming up from the surrounding dead foliage. I also found a few that didn't make it through the winter-it was saddening.  I was quickly reminded that I had purchased that particular plant from a nursery that guarantees the plants you buy, so if they don't return the next year I could return them and get a new plant to replace it.  What a promise!  My mood immediately improved and my happiness returned.

The Path of Forgiveness

March 6, 2016

Imagine being bitten by a poisonous snake. We have two courses of action once we've been bitten. We can pursue the snake out of anger to kill it and die from the affects of the poison OR we can seek help immediately to rid our bodies of the toxin- resulting in a prolonged life. Our lives are filled with "snake bites" or offenses from those surrounding us. Whether its family, friends, or strangers--we will be "bitten" atleast once in our lives and it will be up to us whether we choose life or death.

13 Years Ago Today

February 27, 2016

"How to" books- we've all got them. Some of us depend on them more than others. When pregnant with Sage, I was afraid that without the help of many parenting books, I wouldn't be an adequate mother.  Even after reading many of them, I still didn't feel prepared to care for our perfect baby girl. Quickly I learned that being a good mother isn't just learned from a mothering manual.  Sage would cry often and fuss and I couldn't calm her at times. I jealously looked at other mothers as they took care of their babies, effortlessly and confidently. Seeing their ease with their offspring made me feel  like I was a dropout from mothering school. Even though I was a first-time mother and still learning the tricks-of-the-trade, I hoped my deep love and devotion to her would make up the difference in what I lacked.

A Life of Purpose

Surviving a traumatic brain injury and a coma has been an interesting experience. Many people have asked me what I remember about the time I was in a coma. Frankly--not a thing.
